01-05-2009 European Music Festival for Young People: “First price Cum Laude” for our youth orchestra.
Last Friday, May 1st, our youth orchestra received a “First price Cum Laude” at the “European Music Festival for Young People” in Neerpelt. The youth orchestra’s participation to this contest is an important step in the preparation for their participation to the “World Music Contest” in July.

Last weeks our young musicians rehearsed intensively. Guided by their superb conductor, Peter Cools, they explored and studied two compositions, “Paladin” and “Man in the ice”. It has to be said, the motivation and enthusiasm of these young musicians is inspiring. When they entered the concert hall excitement and some nervousness as well  entered their mind. 89 musicians in full focus and utmost concentration, a conductor in top shape … firework guaranteed.

The international jury was very enthusiastic and praised the intense and warm sound of our youth orchestra. The youth orchestra was also congratulated for its superior dynamic performance and the superb musicality. The jury rewarded the musicians and their conductor with an unbelievable 92%, a “First Price Cum Laude”. An enormous joy overwhelmed musicians and conductor at and after the proclamation!

The World Music Contest organizers have published the program for the concert band competition. The Youth Orchestra of the Royal Concert Band of Peer will perform on Saturday July 18th at 11,40 am in the ‘Parkstad Theatre’ in Kerkrade. The main orchestra will conclude the evening program of Sunday July 26th at 21,00 pm in the famous ‘Rodahal’ in Kerkrade.

15/05/05 The dates and hours of our WMC performances are known
Both orchestras are rehearsing intensively and with utmost concentration. After its participation to the “European Music Festival for Young People”, the youth orchestra is now concentrating on “Invocation and Toccata”, elected by the WMC jury as the mandatory composition in 3rd division.

The main orchestra performed successfully at a unique concert on May 10th in the cultural centre Palethé in Overpelt. The WMC mandatory composition “Vientos” was performed for the first time in presence of a live public; a great success. Two other concert bands, “the Brass Band North Limburg” and “Fanfare Kempenbloei” of Achel, performed at a superior level as well.

The exams have finally passed. The preparations to the World Music Contest arrive in their final stage. The main orchestra and the youth orchestra change to a higher gear.

On Saturday June 27th the youth orchestra left Peer for two days. In the monastery of Vaalbeek, near Leuven, they went on a musical journey through the obligatory work ‘Toccata and Dance’ and their work of choice ‘Man in the Ice’. Apart from music, the 101 musicians also took time to relax and create an incredible team spirit. A video report of this magnificent week will soon be available on this site.

The main orchestra changed to a higher gear by the start of an intensive series of group rehearsals and traditional rehearsals. In the weekend of July 4th the 115 musicians camped in our own music hall for a weekend full of musical challenges.

Our preparation is also characterized by several concerts. More information can be found on the beautiful poster in this frame. You’re kindly invited.

26/06/09 Both orchestras in full speed to the WMC

Meanwhile the PR- and stage-team are working very hard to prepare for a beautiful setting in which our musicians will perform optimally and by which our audience will be immerged in an exciting musical journey. Several art forms will be brought together to create an all-in experience. Red line through all this: the famous painter ‘Pieter Bruegel the Old’. Recent historical research has conclusively proven that Bruegel was born in the city of Peer; in his honor the Royal concert band of Peer choose to link its WMC performance to this old master. More information on this arts’ cross-over will be published soon, yet to really experience it, there’s only one time and one place: 2009 July 26th at 8.30 pm in the Rodahal in Kerkrade.
